 Build Outdoor Waterfalls


An outdoor natural waterfall is a beautiful addition to your home. It adds soothing sounds,

color and another dimension to your garden. A waterfall has 3 structural components:

- The pool or basin that catches water at the bottom.

- Top of the waterfall where water falls from

- Center Rock cascade where water flows down.


For ideas on types of waterfall, get inspired by nature. Decide on the size and height you

would like. Look for slopes in your yard, if any, or make an artificial slope for smooth

downward flow of water. Then dig out a hole for the pond. The dirt that comes out of that

hole can be used to shape the cascade. Cover ground with rubber liner so that it will hold

water to the desired area. Plan for more rubber liner than you can think of and trim the

extra. Position the rocks, at least a few large ones, which will hold the liner.


Have a safe electric supply nearby. Use a submersible pump to install in the pond for water

circulation from the pool to the top of the waterfall. Cover the hose from water pump with

rocks, stones or soil to enhance the natural look.


For even more spectacular visual effects add shrubs and flowers in or around the edges of

the waterfall. Add fish to the pond!


Creating your own waterfall can be a lot of hard work but also rewarding as it can add

tranquility and a sense of peace to any area of your home.
